The Ramsgate Hovercraft releases smartphone app

The new Hovercraft app creates a unique personal musical experience by tracking your GPS location. The app contains around nine hours of new, original Hovercraft loops. Each loop is tagged with a location somewhere in Ramsgate so that as you approach it becomes louder and as you get further away it becomes quieter and disappears – so as you walk around Ramsgate you are accompanied by a brand-new, ever-changing Hovercraft mix.

For the next week the app is free in celebration of the Ramsgate Festival of Sound. Currently only available for Android, you can find it on Amazon Appstore. An iPhone version of the app is expected to be ready in two to three months.

The Hovercraft has been hard at work getting the new album ready for its February release and so far everything is on track. More details to follow but it will involve exciting new artwork and of course more bewildering and beguiling music than the human mind can comfortably comprehend. There will be a launch event too – watch out for more details on that soon. In the meantime, enjoy The Red Desertshore.

The Ramsgate Hovercraft debut album released

We are excited to announce that Arcane Empire, The Ramsgate Hovercraft’s debut album has just been released. The album contains nine tracks plus four bonus tracks available on download.  You can purchase it as a double vinyl LP in a gatefold sleeve with several bonus inserts or as a download from Bandcamp, where you can also hear sample tracks (the price for the double LP includes a full download).

Printing and pressing was funded with the generous support of many contributors through an Indiegogo campaign and we are enormously grateful for this help. We have started shipping the album to our crowdfunding supporters; if you are one of them your copy will be in the post in the next week or two. We are especially grateful to the following contributors who chose to become sponsors:

Arcane Empire LP

Christopher Cockerell’s Kitchen

This ambient video was made as part of the promotional video for the band’s upcoming Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for pressing and printing Arcane Empire. Spot this footage in the background of the promo when the campaign is launched in the next few days. Christopher Cockerell was the inventor of the hovercraft, doing his early experimenting in his kitchen, giving the name for the track on Arcane Empire that the band used to make the soundtrack for the film.

Pressing Matters

Preparations for releasing the album have moved into the next phase. We have more music than can fit on a double LP so we’re selecting and cutting, but don’t worry – whatever we leave out we’ll make available for downloading. We’ve started work on mastering and quotes have been coming in for pressing and printing so we’ll be making a decision shortly. We’ve also been making videos promoting the album – these photos show filming for the latest one, to be released very soon, featuring talented friend of the Hovercraft Mary Macbeth.
